The warrior class is the original melee attacker, using heavy armor to soak damage and strong weapons to dispatch of foes. While warriors may primarily be known for excelling as tanks, they also make for a fun and useful damage class. Mastering your DPS warrior is far from simple, but is very rewarding once you understand what makes the class work!
Critical Strike – After reaching the soft hit cap of 8%, you’ll want to stack as much critical strike as possible! Critical strikes are helpful to any class, but warriors in particular benefit from talents that make crits even more important. 2 points in Impale will increase the damage of critical strikes by 20%, while 5 points in Flurry allow you to gain a 30% attack speed bonus to your next 3 swings after you’ve actually landed a crit.
The warrior is the only class in WoW Classic that is actually playable by every race in the game. That’s right! All four Alliance races (dwarf, gnome, human, night elf) and Horde races (orc, tauren, troll, undead) are fair game for warriors. However, because of the way racial abilities work, each faction has a clear winner when it comes to deciding on a race. If you play arms all the way to level 60, then this is probably what your talent tree will look like. Depending upon what weapon type you use, you’ll want to switch points out of axe specialization to the weapon specialization type that you use. Axes and polearms are a little better, but swords aren’t too far behind. Maces aren’t very useful for PvE situations.
Tauren are often considered the best Horde tank due to the extra health from Endurance, and they also have a useful area of effect stun in War Stomp, as well as a head start on Herbalism with Cultivation. Also, keep in mind Taurens have larger hitboxes than other races, allowing them to hit, and be hit, from 2 yards further than other races. This can be a blessing, when trying to reach moving enemies, or a curse, when trying to run away from them. Overall, Taurens make for strong tanks, but lack Orc's and Troll's threat-building abilities, which are especially important on Horde, due to the lack of Blessing of Salvation and the extra DPS brought by Windfury Totem.
For the standard, dual-wielding fury talent tree, you’ll actually place 34 points into the fury tree and just 17 into arms. This allows you to acquire both ranks of Impale in the arms tree, while maximizing any damage bonuses found in the fury tree. Options here include selecting Improved Cleave over Improved Battle Shout in situations needing more area of effect damage.
This is not going to be a talent by talent breakdown, although I might well sit down and write one of those if there’s interest. This is me giving you a look at various talent builds you can adopt once WoW Classic is out, and get an idea of what to aim for. In general, while leveling you should use your primary talent tree as your first one to spend points in — get up the tree to 31 and that big, primary attack (Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst or Shield Slam) as fast as possible. That’s a spec defining ability and you want to get it ASAP. From there, you can start spending points in the other trees.
Travel Time is what you will be doing the most of, thus talents or abilities that increase movement speed will likely have the highest impact on leveling speed.The more important concept is this: Shaving off seconds of downtime between pulls is as valuable as shaving off seconds of In Combat Time. When you think about it this way, Damage Mitigation and Regenerative talents / abilities / stats have almost offensive properties and should potentially be valued equally to stats that increase damage.
The Horde levels 50-60 guide has been rewritten and revamped. My 1-60 Horde leveling guide is now completely updated for the 1.12 Drums of War patch. As you can see it is about 15% larger than the 40-50 guide (single largest guide page yet). There is also a lot of route changes. I moved the entire Silithus section from level 55 to level 58, which allowed me to include a lot more quests for that zone. There is also a lot of other improvement to the route, including adding a lot more quests into the guide, mostly from Moonglade, Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands. This will make the final level 59 grind much shorter.
The leveling guides on my site are essentially speed leveling guides. My leveling guides are the same guides I use myself to speedrun to 60 on new servers to get 60 server first. I list many occasions where I tell the player to "die on purpose" to go faster. I tell the player to skip certain quests, because some quests are just not worth the time/XP. I list tricks and shortcuts to go faster so you can reach level 60 much quicker. I am still constantly going through them over and over again perfecting the guides to make them faster and easier to follow. For the most part, the guide can be followed without the need from other player's help, as the whole guide was made from a solo run anyways. Although I do list quests that can optionally be done if you have a group.
